Steve Jobs on Problem Solving

Swirly ChaosYou don't have to like Apple products but you can't deny that they have had a dramatic impact on the technology landscape.  An important factor in how a company performs is the culture that exists there.  The beliefs that they hold and their general approach will play a big role in what they achieve and the products they create.  Companies such as Apple have been particularly good at creating an environment where creative thinking can shine and is encouraged.

"When you start looking at a problem and it seems really simple,  you don’t really understand the complexity of the problem.  Then you get into the problem,  and you see that it’s really complicated,  and you come up with all these convoluted solutions.  That’s sort of the middle,  and that’s where most people stop…

But the really great person will keep on going and find the key, the underlying principle of the problem — and come up with an elegant,  really beautiful solution that works."

This quote by Steve Jobs is one I particularly like.  I think it illustrates the creative process elegantly.

You start off with an idea.  It becomes messy as you start exploring and all the possibilities open up to you.  If you persist then you start to see where you really need to be and start refining until you are left with only the best.

When you're being creative,  how close do you get towards the really beautiful solution that works?

Your on your way to becoming a Highly Creative Person.
