The same tools that are creating opportunities for creativity to flourish are also allowing greed on a monumental scale. Unfortunately, greed for power and wealth involves creating a population that does what they are told, believes what they are told, doesn't think for themselves and generally lets those privileged few at the top do what they want. Us being creative is not part of their plan. Look at the media, there is some good entertainment there but increasingly it's becoming formula shows designed to push advertising. The media companies also are increasingly pushing laws that take away our rights and increase theirs. And most people are ok with that because they mask it as necessary for fighting piracy (which according to the music industry is causing more than 5 times the GDP of America every year). Oh, and they also believe that downloading a few songs is worse than murder and should be punished as such. Schools are increasingly going down a recipe path that encourages remember and regurgitate rather than actual thinking. It kills creativity. Look at the rediculousness that is the patent system today. Originally created to protect the inventor to encourage people to be creative. Now it is a broken system where anything can be patented and then actively used to sue others. It has led to companies filing for thousands of patents monthly on all manner of trivial things and then using these to sue competitors rather than actually, you know, competing with them. It now seems you can't create anything without infringing the patents of atleast a dozen other companies. The system no longer encourages creativity but stifles it, tremendously. Just look at the mess that is the mobile phone industry at the moment. The universe is destined for heat death. A state where there is no thermodynamic free energy and as such, no heat, motion or life. We are part of this universe and will follow suit. We can try and fight it but eventually entropy will win. That ultimately means the absolute diminishing of creativity. The world will always tend towards equilibrium and that means more conformity and less creativity. So there.
You're on your way to becoming a Highly Creative Person.
(Note: I don't actually believe that creativity is doomed. In fact, quite the opposite. Sometimes it is fun though to try and argue the opposite point and this is my attempt at doing so. Feel free to leave comments with your opinion.) |
