A Week of Learning From Others

Friday, 28 January 2011   |   Creativity Challenges

CollaborationA great source of inspiration is other people.  Unfortunately is is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that our way of doing things is the best,  that our ideas are superior (See last weeks challenge for more on this).  It is also easy to get in the routine of doing things the way they've always been done.

This week we're going to break this habit and learn to learn from others.

Your challenge this week is to seek and act on advice or ideas from someone else every day this coming week.

Pick a different task or activity each day and seek to ask someone from as far a field as possible.  You want to find people that are not near to you because they will probably have similar ideas and habits to you.  This would then defeat the purpose.  Try and find people that are not experts in the given area and will hence not have preconceived ideas on what the outcome or solution should be.

The ideas offered may not work well,  they may not be feasible,  you may have to tweak them before you can use them but approach it with an open mind and see what the outcome is.  You may be surprised by what you discover.

eg.  Your task for today may be to gather data for a report you need to generate.

You may decide to ask your two year old daughter how she would do it,  or the mailman or someone from admin.

Remember to check back next Friday when our next Creativity Challenge will be released.
