The Perfect Question

Question MarksThe right answer is not always the most important thing.  Asking the right questions can be even more important.  This can often be hard.  Experience is a good educator.  An inquisitive mind also helps.  Your challenge this week will help develop your inquisitive side.

Your challenge this week is to come up with the most perplexing question you can.

Think of all the things you take for granted or really just skip over in your day to day life.  Is there anything that just is but you really don't know why?

As an example, you may ask why the alphabet is in the order that it is?

This can be quite a hard task so don't give up if you can't think of anything straight away.  Our minds are very good at filtering out details that are not directly important to us and we need to break out of that to find the great questions.  With a bit of practice though you will get there so keep at it.

If you want some inspiration our random word generator or idea generator may be good places to start.  There are several ways you could use these tools to help.  You just need to be creative.  For instance you could:

  • Generate a single item then think of questions you could ask relating to that.  When you've exhausted that item,  refresh and start again.
  • Generate two items and think of a question you could ask relating to one but inspired by the other.  Then reverse and repeat.
  • Generate multiple items and just let your mind wander.
  • Generate three items.  Identify a common characteristic between them.  Think of a question relating to that common characteristic.
  • Anything else you can think of.

You could also record your thoughts in our list manager.

Have fun.
