Lines and Dots Triptych

Friday, 22 June 2012   |   Creativity Challenges

TriptychA key component in really unleashing your creativity is understanding what it is that you are trying to do or achieve.  It's an area that is easy to get lost in.  To go down the wrong path.  To not see the forest for the trees, as the saying goes.  This weeks creativity challenge is a fun little activity that will help you break down anything into a very simple representation.  A great way to get a fresh perspective on the topic.

Your challenge is to create a lines and dots triptych for a different topic each day for the following week.

A triptych is a piece of art that is divided into 3 sections.

Our 3 sections will be diagrams of different states of our chosen topic.  eg, it could be

  • Good, better, best
  • Past, present, future
  • Slow, fast, insanely fast
  • Upset, normal, over the moon
  • etc.

For topics you can pick anything but here are a few to get you started:

  • Me
  • My pet
  • My work
  • Our current project
  • My desk
  • The next hour
  • Creativity
  • etc.

Now the catch is,  for each state you are only allowed to use dots, lines and arrows.  Try and keep the diagrams as simple as possible.  The simpler the better.

Here is an example:

The chosen topic is education.

Triptych Education

So, grab some pen and paper, or you can do it on the computer if you like. Think of a topic and 3 states and see what you come up with.  Have fun!

I sense creativity in you.  Use it to it's fullest.
