Hemingway 6 Word Story

Monday, 12 September 2011   |   Creativity Games

BookThis week we're condensing.

Game:  There are 2 random words below.  Your aim is to use them to write a 6 word story.  Even though you only have 6 words, try and make is as powerful as possible.  Be creative.

  • raincoat
  • ashes

Challenge:  For extra challenge.  Grab another random word from our random word generator and include that word as well.

Strategy:  Ernest Hemingway was dared to write a story in under 10 words.  He got it down to 6.  "For sale; baby shoes, never worn."  And here's an example of an autobiography done in 6 words.  When you're limited to 6 words you can create some rather interesting effects.  Sometimes limiting yourself in a severe way is a good means to force you to be creative in others.
