Creative Haiku Poem

Sunday, 22 April 2012   |   Creativity Games

Three PebblesThis week we're waxing poetic.

Game:  There are 3 random words below.  You are to write a haiku poem where one of these words is on each line.  See below for more on what a haiku poem is.  You may pick whatever subject you like for your poem.

  • wool
  • herb
  • cactus

Challenge:  There is no challenge this week.

Strategy: A haiku is a poem consisting of 3 lines, typically up to 17 syllables.  The aim of a haiku is to use a limited set of words to create a multi level picture that doesn't reveal everything. That is, it indicates the more potent points and entices you to fill in the rest.  Every person will fill in the gaps their own unique way and thus create their own unique interpretation.

One of the great things about haikus' is that when they are done well they evoke a lot of imagery and emotion in relatively few words.  Highly creative ideas tend to be characterised similarly.  The idea will be very simple yet also very powerful.  If you can incorporate emotion in there somewhere as well then you are onto a winner.

So when you are conjuring your haikus' remember one of the main things you're aiming for is as much imagery and emotion in as few words as possible.

I sense creativity in you.  Join in below and let it flourish.
