Rolling Opposites

Monday, 04 March 2013   |   Creativity Games

Yin YangThis week we're idly flip flopping.

Game:  There is 1 random word below.  This is the starting word.  Your aim is to take the word from the last commenter and reply with a word that is opposite to that word but in a different way to the previous word.  See Strategy below for examples.  Also, make sure you mention on what basis your word is opposite to the previous word.

Challenge:  There is on challenge this week.

Strategy: This is a game that will encourage you to look at things with different perspectives.  You have to decide on an angle to treat the word and then work out what it's opposite would be.  The trick is that the angle cannot be the same or similar to that used with the previous word.  So for example:

The starting word may be Dark.  You decide that the opposite to that is Light.  So you have chosen an opposite based on colour or lightness.  I now have to add to the chain and I pick Heavy.  If someone else were to respone they may choose to treat Heavy as an emotion and the opposite is Jovial. Etc.

Some words will be hard to think of in terms of having an opposite or will only have one obvious opposite and that has already been used.  This is where the creativity comes in as you search for another angle to consider it from.  Have fun with it and see if you can get the chain of words to flow into many different areas.
